On the afternoon of January 13, 2025, the College of Culture and Tourism organized the ninth session of the 2024 Humanities Lecture Series (the 86th session overall) at the Lu Tong Tea Brewing Master Studio in the Training Building. This session featured a lecture titled "Harmony in Diversity, Beauty in Shared Experiences—A Glimpse into British Culture," delivered by Li Yan, Dean of the College of Marxism. The event was presided over by the head of the College of Culture and Tourism, with the participation of relevant leaders and faculty representatives from both the College of Marxism and the College of Culture and Tourism, as well as the owner of the Shu'er Tea Space.

Li Yan introduced the geographical location, climatic features, and distribution of major cities in the United Kingdom, highlighted iconic landmarks such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the British Museum, and shared insights into the history and achievements of the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Starting from her personal experiences in the UK, she used a wealth of images and videos to showcase British streets, architecture, music, cuisine, transportation, and culture. By comparing and contrasting Chinese and British cultures in terms of clothing, food, housing, transportation, and cultural practices, she presented a vivid portrayal of a "diverse world." She called on everyone to become practitioners of friendly cooperation, promoters of mutual learning among civilizations, and active participants in building a community with a shared future for humanity, working together to create a brighter future for the world.

This lecture not only broadened the international perspectives of the faculty but also encouraged them to approach their work from the broader vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity. It emphasized the importance of respecting the diversity of world civilizations while steadfastly upholding the stance of Chinese culture, enhancing exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Western cultures, promoting the global reach of China’s excellent traditional culture, and continuously strengthening the dissemination and influence of Chinese civilization. The lecture was highly praised by all attendees. The College of Culture and Tourism stated that it will continue to organize cultural lecture series to enrich the faculty's knowledge and enhance the internationalization of the teaching staff.
